Incentives for Residential and Commercial Service Providers

Unlock new revenue opportunities with AEP Texas’s energy efficiency programs! We provide attractive incentives for participating contractors who install eligible energy-saving services and products in the homes of residential customers and businesses of commercial customers served by AEP Texas.

  • AEP Texas offers incentives for the installation of qualified energy efficient equipment that achieves energy and demand savings.
  • Incentive funds vary by program and are available on a first come, first served basis until fully reserved.
  • All projects must qualify and be pre-approved before incentives are reserved. To view a comprehensive list of measures and their associated savings values, please refer to the Technical Reference Manual (TRM).
  • To ensure funding is available to multiple participants, AEP Texas has set a maximum incentive limit for each program participant.
  • Incentive caps may be adjusted to achieve energy efficiency goals at the discretion of AEP Texas.
  • The Program Year begins January 1st and ends December 31st. However, program funding availability and project submittal deadlines vary by program.

RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS

AEP Texas Residential Programs are for residential customers of the AEP Texas distribution company. The primary objective is to achieve a cost-effective reduction of energy consumption by the installation of energy efficiency measures or services such as insulation, LED light bulbs, and home weatherization.

CoolSaver A/C Tune-up Program

The CoolSaver Program focuses on improving the energy efficiency of the HVAC systems of residential customers by training participating contractors on industry best practices using the Program toolkit.

Service Provider Eligibility
  • Sign Participating Contractor Agreements.
  • Attend in-classroom, on-site, and in-field training as required.
  • Attend follow-up training to ensure contractor proficiency as needed.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the skills required to be a contractor in the program and complete the required minimum activity levels.

    contact in FAQ document.
  2. Order a CoolSaver toolkit for each tune-up tech or team you plan to send to training.
  3. Use the FAQ document contact email to let us know you have ordered your toolkit and training materials will be sent to you for review.
  4. We will schedule training at your location after you have notified us that you received your toolkit and have completed review of your preliminary training materials.
  5. Submit your form for direct deposit of incentive payments and then submit a W-9 form.

Hard-to-Reach Standard Offer Program

AEP Texas contracts with Project Sponsors or service providers to deliver peak demand savings and/or annual energy savings by installing qualifying energy efficient measures at existing homes in the AEP Texas service area with household incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines or who participates in an approved government program.

Service Provider Eligibility
  • Review and understand the program manual and the applicable Technical Reference Manual (TRM) as it pertains to measures the Project Sponsor will install.
  • Comply with all rules, requirements, and procedures of the program in order to receive incentive payments.
  • Meet minimum eligibility criteria.
  • Demonstrate financial, technical, and managerial qualifications as part of the application process.

SMART Source℠ Program

The SMART Source℠ Program offers financial incentives for the installation of eligible distributed solar energy generating equipment, by approved Market Actors/Project Sponsors, on the premises of customers served by AEP Texas.

Service Provider Eligibility
  • Enroll as a Market Actor for program participation.
  • Carry liability insurance as detailed in the Program Guidebook.
  • Only licensed electrical contractors and electricians will offer, perform, and permit all electrical work.
  • Review and understand the Program Guidebook and comply with all Program requirements and guidelines.
  • Applicant is a licensed Texas Electrical Contractor or Master Electrician who employs at least one full-time regionally-based employee as detailed in the Program Guidebook.

  1. Register on the P3 database at aeptexas.p3.enertrek.com.
  2. Create a new market actor profile, which may require uploading a W9 form, a current certificate of insurance, and/or other information.
  3. Complete an enrollment application for the program. The application will be reviewed, and the Project Sponsor will be notified via email of approval or denial.
  4. Once approved, sign and submit the Project Sponsor Agreement and other documentation.

Commercial Standard Offer Program

The Commercial Standard Offer Program offers incentives for new construction and retrofit installation of measures that reduce demand and save energy for non-residential customers registered in the program, who work with approved Project Sponsors/Market Actors, to install eligible energy efficiency measures in non-residential facilities in the AEP Texas service territory.

Service Provider Eligibility
  • Register on the P3 database at aeptexas.p3.enertrek.com .
  • Submit an Enrollment Application, which may require a description of the Project Sponsor/Market Actor firm and a work plan.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to fulfilling program objectives and competency in completing the proposed project.

Small Business Direct Install

The Small Business Direct Install Program is a market transformation program designed to equip participating contractors with the tools they need to succeed in generating revenue from projects in the small business market, and offer generous incentives needed to encourage small businesses to install energy efficient products such as high efficiency lighting and refrigeration measures.

Service Provider Eligibility
  • Submit a completed Participating Contractor Agreement.
  • Agree to fulfill the role of the participating contractor.
  • Proof of Commercial General Liability Insurance.
  • Maintain and provide proof of all electrical and/or contractor
    licenses.
  • Eligible contractors must use the complementary Field Tool to submit projects for eligible lighting, refrigeration, and other direct install measures.

The CoolSaver Program focuses on improving the energy efficiency of the HVAC systems of commercial customers by training participating contractors on industry best practices using the Program toolkit.

Service Provider Eligibility
  • Sign Participating Contractor Agreements.
  • Attend in-classroom, on-site, and in-field training as required.
  • Attend follow-up training to ensure contractor proficiency as needed.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the skills required to be a contractor in the program and complete the required minimum activity levels.

Ready to Sign Up?
  1. Complete the CoolSaver Contractor agreement; scan and email to
    contact in FAQ document.
  2. Order a CoolSaver toolkit for each tune-up tech or team you plan to send to training.
  3. Use the FAQ document contact email to let us know you have ordered your toolkit and training materials will be sent to you for review.
  4. We will schedule training at your location after you have notified us that you received your toolkit and have completed review of your preliminary training materials.
  5. Submit your form for direct deposit of incentive payments and then submit a W-9 form.

Small Business Direct Install

The Small Business Direct Install Program is a market transformation program designed to equip participating contractors with the tools they need to succeed in generating revenue from projects in the small business market, and offer generous incentives needed to encourage small businesses to install energy efficient products such as high efficiency lighting and refrigeration measures.

Service Provider Eligibility
  • Submit a completed Participating Contractor Agreement.
  • Agree to fulfill the role of the participating contractor.
  • Proof of Commercial General Liability Insurance.
  • Maintain and provide proof of all electrical and/or contractor
    licenses.
  • Eligible contractors must use the complementary Field Tool to submit projects for eligible lighting, refrigeration, and other direct install measures.

Ready to Sign Up?
  1. Complete the Small Business Participating Contractor Agreement.
  2. Conduct a comprehensive facility survey with the Field Tool, or appropriate calculator.
  3. Conduct facility surveys to identify energy efficiency projects that are eligible for incentives.
  4. Educate customers and provide technical assistance including identification of energy efficiency opportunities.
  5. Provide customers with Customer Proposals using the Field Tool, or appropriate calculator
  6. Obtain signed Customer Proposals and submit them to the Implementer
  7. Schedule and conduct installations

SMART Source℠ Solar PV Program

The SMART Source℠ Solar PV Program offers financial incentives for the installation of eligible distributed solar energy generating equipment, by approved Market Actors/Project Sponsors, on the premises of customers served by AEP Texas.

Service Provider Eligibility
  • Enroll as a Market Actor for program participation.
  • Carry liability insurance as detailed in the Solar PV Program Guidebook.
  • Only licensed electrical contractors and electricians will offer, perform, and permit all electrical work.
  • Review and understand the Program Guidebook and comply with all Program requirements and guidelines.
  • Applicant is a licensed Texas Electrical Contractor or Master Electrician who employs at least one full-time regionally-based employee as detailed in the Program Guidebook.

Ready to Sign Up?
  1. Register on the P3 database at aeptexas.p3.enertrek.com.
  2. Create a new market actor profile, which may require uploading a W9 form, a current certificate of insurance, and/or other information.
  3. Complete an enrollment application for the program. The application will be reviewed, and the Project Sponsor will be notified via email of approval or denial.
  4. Once approved, sign and submit the Project Sponsor Agreement and other documentation.
