The SMART Source℠ Program is designed to help customers of AEP Texas meet a portion of their energy needs with solar electric systems. The program offers financial incentives that help offset the initial cost of installing a solar energy system. By installing solar on your home or business, you can generate a portion of your own electricity and help the environment.
Eligibility & Requirements
Qualifying customers must receive electric delivery services from AEP Texas to be eligible to participate in the program. Your Service Provider can help to determine eligibility.
To have a solar energy system installed, your property must have a reasonable amount of unshaded, unobstructed roof space during peak sun hours in the day. A southern oriented roof is ideal, but east and west facing roofs can capture roughly 80% of the energy that a southern oriented roof collects. Roofs may be flat or sloped. Rack-mounted systems on the ground and pole mounted systems are also available.
Visual Inspections
In order for contractors to receive their incentives, an AEP Texas representative will perform random inspections to ensure quality of service and verify installation of the equipment.
At the customer’s convenience, an on-site or virtual inspection will be scheduled.
Program Funding
Program funding is limited. Incentives are released and paid directly to the participating contractor upon the completion of the project that meets all the program requirements. Funding is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis and is subject to program, sector, and Service Provider funding limitations.
